François POMPON (1855-1933)
Peacock Old bronze print with brown-green patina. Signed on the terrace, stamped "AA. Hebrew - lost wax". Numbered (B.4). 8,5 x 18 x 3 cm Bibliography: Chevillot, Colas et Pingeot, "François Pompon, catalogue raisonné", Paris, Gallimard/RMN, 1994, n°136 C page 216 (reproduced). The plaster model of the "Peacock" had belonged to Mr. Zoubaloff who authorized Hébrard to melt it. The first model dates from 1918, it is published in bronze by Hébrard from 1922 to 1933. There are 34 copies numbered as follows: from 1 to 10 in 1925 then from A1 to A10 in 1926, from B1 to B10 in 1930 and C1 to C10 in 1933... The Hébrard archives are very precise on the dating of the castings. Our B4 print was melted on December 10, 1928 and sold in 1929.
