Typescript signed, also signed p. 15, (Paris 4 March 1951, date crossed out) numerous erasures and corrections, 25 p. 1/2 in-4°. Typescript entitled "Presences" in which he evokes districts of Paris through Baudelaire along the Quai d'Anjou to join Jeanne Duval whom he describes in Manet's portrait "... an impression of a great dazed woman whose long fingers seem to be animated by such a tactile need for pleasure that it becomes almost disturbing.... " and inserts quotes from The Flowers of Evil " Les Bijoux ". Then he talks about Marcel Schwob who lived in the rue Saint-Louis on the Island with Marguerite Moreno; about Bubu de Montparnasse (Charles Louis Philippe) who encouraged him to settle on the Island. He continues: "«... The few individuals who excited my disgust in this world were thriving people of good repute. As for the rascals I have known, I think of all of them without exception, with pleasure and benevolence.... ». He recounts his meeting with Jean Lorrain, and his night walks with Katherine Mansfield. He talks about his suicidal thoughts and concludes: "... Perhaps I am only a shadow standing still in the night... ». Joint: 2 L.A.S. de P.
