Long literary correspondence from the great Portuguese novelist to Renaud de Jouvenel. He evokes in several letters his work Eternidade (1933), that of R. de Jouvenel Commune Mesure (1938). In his letter of May 9, 1974, he describes with emotion the regained freedom "... there is now in Portugal an immense joy among the people and intellectuals.
We have suffered almost half a century of mental and police slavery. Forty-eight years! To truly love freedom, you have to have lost it for some time... It seems to me that we are in the process of making, or being able to make, a new society without violence. Maybe I'm wrong but it would be beautiful... "Most of these letters are of literary interest.
