GALLÉ (Émile), verrier et ébéniste français (1846-1904). - Lot 72
GALLÉ (Émile), verrier et ébéniste français (1846-1904). 2 documents. L.A.S. of its monogram to Henri Guérard (1845-1897). Usine-Garenne (Nancy), August 19, 1889. 1 p. in-8°. Heading printed "Emile Gallé de Nancy". Gallé is annoyed about an article that is to appear about him in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts illustrated by H. Guérard. The choice made by M. de Lostalot (artistic director of the Gazette) does not suit him: "... I am sorry and angry about this little matter because of you. The newspapers are making such a fuss about my modest work at the moment that something characteristic must be given as a reproduction.... I'm advising my representative to have to give you some photographs of flower pieces.... ». L.A.S. de ses initales, at Lostalot, Nancy, August 19, 1889. 1 p. in-4°. Signed autograph duplicate in which he evokes the choices of illustrations of the article in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts "... isn't it fair that my work, whose meaning has been clarified by several critics for some time, should be represented, in an important collection like yours, by an object essentially typical of my way? I.e. the rendering of poetic texts by vitrified colourings, and in the form of symbolic plants and flowers? These vegetal figurations are more frequent on my vases, the human figure seeming to me less suitable to cover a text and sensitive? The vase mounted by Mr Froment-Meurice... has no right to take the place... of such a work completed by me with love, infused with a small sensitive soul... ».
