LÉGER (Fernand), peintre français (1881-1955) L.A.S. to Maurice Garçon, October 4, 1952, 1 p. in-4°. Interesting letter inspired by the trial of the Bonnard succession. On the death of his wife in 1942, married under the community regime, the seals were put on his workshop, which was confiscated from him. The painter had no moral rights, nor any finishing rights on his works. Maître Garçon wrote the brochure of his plea: "the trial of the Bonnard estate and the rights of artists". "I have read the judgment (Bonnard case). It is hard to understand why painters are treated differently from writers and composers. These gentlemen retain personal ownership of their manuscripts, it seems that the conjugal community is treated especially. It seems to me that it is the creator alone who must decide on the publication of his work, and that he cannot be forced to relinquish it prematurely by the game of a community succession sharing ... ».
