Nicolas BOILEAU DESPREAUX
Various works with The Treatise of the Sublime, or of the Wonder in Speech, translated from the Greek of Longin. Paris, Denys Thierry, 1701. In-4, red Jansenist morocco, back with 5 nerves, inner lace, gold edges on marbling (Cuzin). New edition called "Edition favorite", the first one on which the name of Boileau appears. It is decorated with the frontispiece engraved by Landry, the same as the original edition of 1674 and 2 full-page engraved illustrations signed Chauveau, dated 1674. The 3 unencrypted leaves of Table are misplaced. Nice copy despite whitish traces at the binding. From the library Lucien Gougy (I - 5, 6, 7, 8 March 1934, n° 389).
