The Pastoral Loves of Daphnis and Chloe. Paris, Printed for the Curious, 1757. Small in-4, marbled calf, triple fillet, spine with 5 ribs nicely grotesquely decorated, gilt edges on marbling (contemporary binding). Edition called "Les Curieux" containing a "double translation from Greek into French, by Mr. Amiot and an anonime" put in parallel. It allows a curious reading of two versions of the text placed one in front of the other. It contains the 29 illustrations of the 1718 edition, here retouched, including a frontispiece by Coypel and 28 figures by Regent Philippe d'Orléans engraved by Benoit Audran. These are shown here surrounded by beautiful frames decorated by Fokke. This edition is also decorated with a title vignette and 5 headbands by Eisen, and 5 culs-de-lampe by Cochin. The engraving of the so-called small feet is here different from the 1718 edition. From the library Lucien Gougy (I - 5, 6, 7, 8 March 1934, no. 501).
