BOOK OF HOURS from the 19th century. S.l.n.d. (circa 1890). In-8, brown morocco, AM number in silver letters inlaid on the first cover, back with 5 ribs, inner lace in frame, lining and endpapers of moiré silk, gilt edges on marbling (Fonteney). 56-(1f.)-57 to 92. Nice book of hours in the style of the books published at that time by Gruel and Englemann. It consists of 47 leaves printed on both sides reproducing leaves from illuminated manuscripts, French or foreign, from the 9th, 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. The illuminations are abundantly illustrated with characters, animals, flowers... they are printed in colour and enhanced with gold. The text is sometimes embellished with historiated letters, small vignettes and some illustrations. 3 leaves have been added with hand illumination for the general title and the chapters of the Holy Mass and the Wedding Mass. This Book of Hours was composed for the wedding of Alice Marteau, whose name is inscribed on one leaf and whose number adorns the binding. First plate partly faded, ex-dono on a cover sheet.
