Paul VERLAINE
At the same time. Paris, Imprimerie Nationale, Vollard, 1900. In-4, blood red Jansenist morocco, back with 4 nerves, inner frame of the same morocco with gilt fillets and foliated mosaic motifs at the corners, blood red moiré lining and reps guards, gilt head, case (Normand). Monod, II-1114 /// (2f.)-139-(1Ff.). Illustrations by Pierre Bonnard including 108 original lithographs in pink and 9 woodcut sketches in black by Tony Beltrand. This is the first book published by Vollard and certainly the most important. Vollard had chosen Lucien Pissarro for his illustration but, in front of the opposition of his father Camille Pissarro, he entrusted Pierre Bonnard to illustrate it. Edition at 200 copies, this one one of the 170 on Dutch Van Gelder vellum (n° 57). Beautiful copy in spite of pale discharges to some leaves and a small tear of 2 cm on page 121.
