New edition illustrated with 250 hors-texte plates after David Roberts, lithographed by Louis Haghe, printed on a tinted background, some in color, including a portrait, 6 engraved titles and 2 maps. They depict beautiful views, monuments and oriental landscapes of Jordan, Syria and Egypt. Each plate is accompanied by a historical description by Reverend George Croly or William Brockedon. Richardson bookplate (crossed out). Bindings rubbed with stains to one board, many leaves unbound and browning to a few leaves. Staining to last 25 leaves of volume IV, with small angular loss of paper.
