ARTISTS DENIS Maurice (1870-1943) C.A.S.... - Lot 88 - Baron Ribeyre & Associés
ARTISTS DENIS Maurice (1870-1943) C.A.S. [to Marcel Réja] (s.l.n.d.). 1 p. ½ in-12. He announces "I haven't done any engraving since my woodcuts of 20 years ago, and my lithographs of 15 years ago; I've never done a burin. So what could I possibly exhibit? []"; FUSTEL DE COULANGES Numa Denis (1830-1889) L.A.S. [to Marcel Réja] Strasbourg, "Dec. 28". 4 pp. in-8. He hesitates to write an article, and puts a few ideas on paper: "I believe that history is not an art, but a science [] It serves our beliefs more than our actions. Let me explain: the object of history is the human soul; just as geology tells us what the Earth has been like at different times [] The basis of my thinking is that man made himself; history consists in knowing how he made himself []" he goes on to develop his arguments and his methodology for writing his article. Very interesting letter; MUSIDORA Jeanne Roques dite (1889-1957), L.A.S. to "Dear Reja" (s.l.), July 22, 52. 1 p. folio. She talks about a film "J'attends moi-même une solution pour mon film []", her film and her activities; TERRASSE Claude (1867-1923), set of 4 L.A.S. to Marcel Réja, [Paris], March 24, 1899, June 10, 1899, April 4, 1900 and n.d. "Friday". Various invitations to meetings, including one to listen at the Trinité "au choeur de chant 2e étage []" finally on April 4, 1900, "Je viens de recevoir [] la réponse, et le poème que vous m'avez apporté, que j'avais confié à l'intéressée - ça ne colle pas; on trouve un peu trop Théâtre libre []".
