Joseph-Daniel GUIGNIAUT. Course in Greek literature. Manuscript. S.l.n.d. (circa 1850). In-folio, half brown cloth (contemporary binding). Manuscript of 66 leaves written in brown ink on the lateral half of each page, the blank part being used to add annotations. A renowned French Hellenist, Joseph-Daniel Guigniaut (1794-1876) is best known for his work on ancient mythology. He played an important role in the founding of the École française d'Athènes in 1846, and held the chair of history and morals at the Collège de France after the death of Jules Michelet. One hinge partly split.
