Notes :
- The exceptional ornamentation of bronzes and the crossbow shape of the upper part of our cabinet are typical of BVRB's work: they can be found, for example, on a pair of BVRB-stamped bookcases in the Getty Museum, with the characteristic Rocaille clasp in the center and identical lock escutcheons. These features are also to be found on a secretary with flap in the Musée de Genève and in the Musée du Mans, as well as on the armoire in the Château de Versailles (Patino donation).
- A cabinet topped by a clock, stamped Bon Durand, from the collection of Edme Armand Gaston duc d'Audiffret Pasquier, is in the James A. Rothschild collections in Waddesdon. Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor. It features the same violin reserve on the front, a similar bipartite marquetry but without the flowering stems, and almost identical bronze ornamentation.
- Another cabinet, almost identical to the one at Waddesdon Manor, also stamped by Bon Durand, Sotheby's sale, April 27, 2017, lot 102 and November 27, 2018, lot 44.
For both these cabinets, it is mentioned that they are inspired by BVRB's works. Clearly, our cabinet served as a model for Bon DURAND, probably at the request of a merchant.
