Louis-Charles Muller (1902-1957) and Victor Canale (1883-195 - Lot 98
Louis-Charles Muller (1902-1957) and Victor Canale (1883-1958) Portrait of Philippe Canale as a child Head in plaster Signed "L.MULLER" in pencil on the left neck Label on reverse of base Total height 35 cm, on a cubic wooden base Damage and restoration Our charming plaster head represents Philippe Canale as a child, the son of a famous Parisian medallist and publisher, Victor Canale (1883-1959). Succeeding Amédée Godard (active in the second half of the 19th century), he founded the Maison Canale in 1912, which to this day remains the last workshop in Paris to produce medals, both religious and secular, in-house. Throughout his career, he worked with metal in all its forms. He tried to free himself from this material and collaborated with Louis-Charles Muller (1902-1957), Grand Prix de Rome in 1932. Best known for his medals and the design of the Muller Marianne stamp, which franked French mail until 1961, he is also the author of enamelled ceramics, drawings and busts.
