Henriette Descat (1851-1924) - Lot 100
Henriette Descat (1851-1924) Portrait of a young girl Terracotta bust Signed "H.DESCAT" under the right shoulder cutout H. 45 cm Accidents Related literature - Anne Rivière, Dictionnaire des sculptrices en France, Paris, Mare & Martin, 2017, p. 168. A student of painter and engraver Pierre-Édouard Frère (1819-1886) and sculptor Léon Eugène Longepied (1849-1888), Henriette Descat mainly devoted herself to large-scale mythological, biblical and allegorical sculptures. She also produced a number of portraits, such as the bronze portrait of Alexandre Leuleux (1812-1873) in the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no. Sc. 135). She participated in the Salon des Artistes français from 1881 to 1908. Our terracotta bust probably represents Mlle J.Y., whose portrait was shown at the Salon des Artistes français in 1883.
